Disclaimer
The few minutes that you spend reading this article may very well decide who you have as arm candy – Eve or Steve. If it’s Eve, well done! If it’s Steve, you have only yourself to blame!
No beating around the bush. We will come straight to the point. Most guys don’t know zilch about how to approach a girl, how to make a move, how to start a conversation, and what questions to ask a girl (to keep the damn conversation going, forget about boosting one’s chances). So, here’s some help you can use.
Lesson #1: Think of it as driving a car
- single and ready to mingle = car in a good condition
- spotting a pretty girl = getting into the car
- making eye contact = turning on the ignition
- approaching the girl = shifting to first gear
- making a move/using a cute pickup line = moving up to second gear
- starting a conversation = third gear (good … now you’re making some progress)
- asking questions and keeping the conversation alive = up to fourth (Great! Keep it going)
- leaving with your newly acquired arm candy = Bingo! Top gear!
The above was an ideal scenario. Now here’s what ‘actually’ happens. Every guy gets into his car. Most turn on the ignition. For some, the engine fires to life; for others, it backfires and goes kaput. Quite a few get to first gear, after which the engine sputters and dies. Some brave souls manage to reach the second and third gears. A few lucky ones make it to fourth, which is where all hell breaks loose. Instead of continuing the good work and shifting to top gear, they commit harakiri and the car ends up in reverse instead!
So, for all you brave men out there who aim for top gear, but inevitably fail at fourth, pay attention! Apart from the regular dating tips, you are also in dire need of good conversation starters. Here are the right questions that you could ask a girl, if overdrive is what you’re aiming at. They serve the purpose of being good icebreakers and can keep your conversation alive.
What does your name mean?
A safe way to begin. If she knows the answer, that’s good because it paves the way for some more chat on or around the subject.
What is your zodiac sign?
Another question that ensures a few more lines of chit chat. Whatever be the zodiac sign that she says she belongs to, always act surprised. Say something about her not resembling the characteristics of that zodiac sign, etc. That will get her to open up and describe herself a bit more.
Where are you from?
A common question, but you can use it as a backup if everything else fails. The point is, you simply must ensure a couple of minutes of chit chat before you move on to the following intermediate-level questions.
So what do you do on weekends?
Be casual and extremely relaxed while asking this question. This is an important question (for you), as it can provide you with secret hints to the answers to a lot of questions such as her idea of fun, her likes and dislikes, her hobbies and activities, and most importantly, whether or not she is dating someone else or is single and ready to mingle! (wink!)
What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?
Ask this question only after you or her have cracked a joke or have shared a good laugh. The timing of this question is very important; therefore, do not ask this question out of the blue (unless you want to ruin your chances). You can also substitute this question with “What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?”.
Further On …
By now, you will have crossed the first critical zone. (There are two critical zones – moving from second to third gear, and from fourth to top gear). Your focus should be on making the conversation as interesting as possible. If by default, the girl happens to be a talkative one, half your work is done, as further topics of conversation will emerge on their own. If however, she is not exactly garrulous, try some of the following questions:
- What kind of movies do you like?
- Who is your favorite actor?
- What is your favorite TV show?
- What kind of music do you like?
- Who is your favorite singer?
- If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it?
Decision Time
Now is the time to make a decision. If after chatting all this while, you have come to the conclusion that the girl isn’t quite your type, you can excuse yourself (politely) and walk away. However, if you feel that the pretty lass and you could make a good pair, you might want to try to spend as much time as you can with her and get her to like you. If you happen to own a nice sporty car, try asking her if she likes the feel of the wind in her hair and the rain drops on her face. If she replies in the affirmative, there you go! You’re one step closer to being in overdrive. Bike owners need not fret. You too can use this question to your advantage. Just make sure that yours is a fast-enough bike and not a sluggish moped. For those without any sort of vehicle, think of it as being a blessing in disguise. What better than a nice long walk in the evening breeze alongside the pretty damsel?
Informal Questions
After you reach a stage where both of you are not exactly strangers anymore, you can try slipping in the following questions:
- How romantic are you?
- What is your idea of a nice date?
- What do you look for in a guy?
- Would you like your guy to be spontaneous or stable?
- What is your definition of love?
- What was your first impression of me?
The Last Few
If you have already begun picturing the two of you as Monsieur and Mademoiselle, try asking these questions without being too intrusive.
- What kind of life do you want to live?
- What would your dream honeymoon destination be? (ask this only if you can pull it off!)
- What would you prefer? An urban apartment, a countryside cottage, a beach-side villa or a house in the hills?
This was a sample list of the questions to ask a girl. It is not a universal list by any stretch of imagination, and it will certainly differ from person to person and girl to girl. On that note, we hereby sign off with this bit of parting advice. Always remember, you must pay minute attention to every word that a girl says, because in most cases, it will have a hidden clue about the next question that should follow. Do NOT bombard her with questions. It is supposed to be a conversation, not an interrogation. Also, it is important that you maintain eye contact during your conversation, so kindly look at her while speaking AND listening. Looking is not staring, so do not behave like a nerd. And please, when you look at her, look into her eyes and NOT anywhere else!
